Minor Injuries FAQ

What kind of injuries are treated at Total Access MD?

Minor injuries at work, to your child during school, or in your home are not life-threatening but can still make you feel worried and uncomfortable. The expert doctors offer comprehensive care in-office for various minor injuries, including cuts, scrapes, strains, sprains, bites, and burns. The doctors aim to reduce your pain and focus on minimizing the risk of future infections.

Can serious injuries be treated?

If you have a severe injury with significant bleeding, the wound is deep, and bleeding has not stopped after 20 mins, or if you have a head wound, you should visit an Emergency Room immediately.

How are injuries treated?

Your consultation consists of several points:

  • Reviewing your medical history – you discuss any illnesses or previous injuries you might have that might be relevant to the current injury. The doctors would also be reviewing your current medications.

  • Reviewing your injury – The doctor examines the injury, how it occurred and how often you're experiencing pain.

  • Physical examination – The doctor checks you over, looking for specific signs of injuries like swelling, redness, heat, and deformity.

  • X-rays – Doctors use X-rays to evaluate many types of injuries, including fractures, dislocations, and damage done to ligaments.

The treatment administered will depend on the nature of the wound. In the case of minor cuts, burns, or animal bites, the treatment will typically involve cleansing the wound of any debris or foreign matter. Then gauze dressing or bandages are used to protect the wound area. Deeper cuts might involve stitches and sutures to close the wounds. Local anesthetic and tetanus shots might be administered as required.

The doctor might also prescribe medications to relieve pain and reduce swelling resulting from the injury. Some injuries might restrict your mobility might be restricted and supportive devices like crutches might be recommended.

Follow-up appointments are scheduled to evaluate the healing and make changes as required.
